DIPLOMA IN GAME DESIGN (DGD)

Programme Highlights

The aim of this program is to enable students to excel in Game Design through a strong foundation in the basics of designing, creating and publishing interactive games.  Course covers the life cycle of a game design and development starting with Game Design and Documentation process, Graphics and Sound Editing, Storyboard and Character Drawing, 3D Character Design and Animation, C# Programming and 2D Game Development.  Students are exposed to creation of casual games, usage of Mathematics and Physics for Artificial Intelligence, development of Games Level Design and Simulation.  Students get involved in specific role based on their area of strength as an artist, programmer, designer, producer, tester etc., in live projects at MAGES.

Academic Qualification

  • GCE ‘A’ Level or
  • Applicants should have passed a minimum of 12 years senior high school education with proof of pass in English. Student has to pass all subjects with the required averaged score of 65%. or
  • Applicants having 3 GCE ‘O’ Level passes or  Certificate Level or  NITEC have to complete MAGES Foundation Course for the relevant programmes prior to entry into selected Diploma courses or
  • Minimum of 10 years senior high school education with proof of pass in English have to complete MAGES Foundation Course for the relevant programmes prior to entry into selected Diploma courses. Student has to pass all subjects with the required averaged score of 65%. [Ref:   Student has to pass all subjects with the required averaged score as below:

English Proficiency

  • Other equivalent qualifications where the medium of instruction is English or Student may attend additional English classes and pass at the equivalent of upper Intermediate level (if student does not meet any of the above English requirements) or

DIPLOMA IN ANIMATION (DA)

Programme Highlights

The Diploma aims to develop and groom students with the skills to be animators and video producers.  The animation industry in the Asia consists of a workforce that stretches across many of the sectors in the creative media industries. This program is designed to stimulate the pre and post production work flow in the Animation industry. Through classroom teaching and guided mentoring, students will be guided on the use of advanced digital tools and cinematic storytelling skills. The modules cover a study of the principles and tools of animation and explore the fundamentals of motion, composition, character design, storyboarding, modeling, lighting, texturing and art direction for a career in the Animation industry.

By using programming tools and the latest software, students will be able to create market-driven games and consider critical business elements in their games design and development projects.  Our industry driven modules would give them a competitive edge over their peers. This Advanced Diploma will equip students with the most current and highly sought after Media and IT skills in interactive games computing platforms. Graduates will be able to seek professional careers locally and in the region for games, interactive applications and multimedia developments. This programme will give students a holistic approach to an enriching learning experience. Assessments will be conducted via coursework as well as paper examinations so that students are well-versed in the required skill-sets through realistic coursework and practical programming projects.

ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN ANIMATION (ADA)

Programme Highlights

The Advanced Diploma aims to nurture students with a mastery of the skills to be expert animators and video producers.  The animation industry in the Asia consists of a workforce that is led by creative producers and backed by successful content publishers. Animated content goes beyond the main platforms to gain presence in online and new media mediums. This programme provides an in-depth education in multimedia, software skills and project expertise required in the Animation industry. By using 2D, 3D and emulative tools and the latest software, students will be able to create high quality movies and consider critical business elements in their video design and development projects.  Our industry driven modules would also give them a competitive edge over their peers.

This Advanced Diploma will equip students with the most current and highly sought after IT skills in creative media and computing platforms. Graduates will be animation design and production professionals who are able to create innovative and market –driven videos for the new-media economy

Post Graduate Diploma in Game Design

Post Graduate Diploma in Game Design (PGD in Game Design)

Programme Highlights

The PGD is designed to enable students to excel in Game design through a strong foundation in the basics of designing, creating and publishing interactive games. This programme also provides a comprehensive education in multimedia, software skills and project expertise required in the Game industry. By using programming tools and the latest software, students will be able to create market-driven games and consider critical business elements in their games design and development projects. Our industry driven modules would give them a competitive edge over their peers. This programme will give students a holistic approach to an enriching learning experience. Assessments will be conducted via coursework as well as paper examinations so that students are well-versed in the required skill-sets through realistic coursework and practical programming projects.

Duration: 
PGD consists of 7 modules which can be completed in 6 months on a Full-Time or Part-time basis and Industrial Attachment for 6 months.

Programme layout: 

Full Time: 5 days X 5 hours a day per week. For Internship, students are required to attend the placement office as per the office timing of the attached company during the internship. 
Part Time: 3 days X 3 hours a day per week for Lecture classes. Students are given the flexibility to complete the module assignment/ projects as per schedule given without compulsorily attending the school. For Internship, students are required to attend the placement office as per the office timing of the attached company during the internship. 
Note: International Students can only opt for Full Time programmes.

OR A diploma from a recognized higher institution of learning with at least 2 years of relevant experience.

MEDICAL INSURANCE

All students local or international (*) are covered under Medical Insurance with benefits mentioned below. MAGES Institute of Excellence has appointed American International Assurance Company, Limited as our Official Medical Insurance provider. Our Group Policy No. is 70675. 

Minimum features/coverage for our medical insurance are: - Annual Limit not less than S$20,000.00 per student; - At least B2 ward (in government and restructured hospitals); & - 24 hours coverage in Singapore and overseas (if student is involved in school-related activities). 
(*) Local students already having similar insurance policy may be choose to opt out.

MAGES FACILITIES

MAGES Central Campus is conveniently located in the heart of Singapore’s prime city district – 181 Orchard Road, Orchard Central. Our Institute is a short 2mins walk by train from Somerset MRT and is accessible by Bus and Taxi. Sheltered car parks can be found both in Orchard Central and in near-by malls. We believe strongly that a holistic education, which incorporates both academic rigorousness and practical knowledge as a critical cornerstone of success. Our institute is designed with that in mind to provide a modern and comfortable learning environment for Students and Academics.
MAGES provides for a low Student to Lecturer Ratio (9:1) and boasts of dedicated Labs (capacity of 9 students each), 1 Studio, 1 Seminar Room, a Student Lounge and a Resource Library to stimulate learning. Our facilities come with full Wi-Fi coverage, complimentary Printing Services, and personal Student Lockers to enhance operation efficiency.
We provide a secured environment for students and staff through our extensive Security System with Infra-red cameras and Fire-safety points throughout the premises. All visitors to our Institute is greeted warmly and screened by either of our reception counters.

MAGES Library 
Students are encouraged to use the reference resources and facilities to assist their course work.  Students may also utilize the library and student lounge for self-study. MAGES have acquired a series of guide books with detailed instructions on content creation Media, Animation, Games and Entertainment that can be loaned by students using the Student Pass. Additional academic resources such as industry publications, sound library, training videos and magazines are also available for student's use. Kindly approach our Student Service Administrator or Academic Resource Executive for details. 

Online Digital Library 
Students are provided with access to MAGES Online Digital Library for online research and Internet publications. Access of Online Digital Library is provided at the computer stations beside MAGES Library. Students are advised to be considerate and moderate access time with other users.

Computer and Wi-Fi Facilities 
MAGES Central Campus is equipped with Wi-Fi coverage. Dedicated access is provided for students who can request for the wireless access code from the Student Service Administrator. Students are able to make use of our Computers and Internet facilities in our campus on an availability basis.  All users are advised to adhere strictly to the rules for usage.

Next Generation Gaming Consoles 
Students are encouraged to use the Next Generation Gaming Consoles and Equipment for their course as well as during their leisure time. This is part of MAGES support for holistic learning process and study-life balance.

Academic Support / Pastoral Counselling 
Students who are experiencing problems with their lessons are advised to approach the Lecturers for assistance with their revisions. Students can also make an appointment with the Academic Director to share their concerns, or to arrange for pastoral counselling. 

Financial Assistance
The Institution would be giving bursary awards and scholarships to the deserving students in order to encourage them to go further and perform better, thus upholding the Core Values of MAGES Institute of Excellence.

Medical Support 
In a medical emergency, MAGES may authorize a qualified medical examination or emergency treatment for you, as may be necessary. The School will contact student’s parents or legal guardian to obtain further authorization when time and situation permits. First-Aid-Kit is available at the reception desk for student’s use where required.

Additional Learning Support 
MAGES will arrange for students Holistic Learning Activities such as Field Trips; Movie Events; Studio Visits; Game Launches; Local and International Conferences; Trade Events; Exhibitions and Mentorship Sessions to nurture students with Character, who are ready for Life Long Learning.

Computer Labs
